Omi-Maiko is Lake Biwa’s most accessible and popular beach. It’s comprised of a long stretch of sand and pebble-covered beach tucked beside a grove of fir trees.
Just 3 min walk to the beach,a cool cafe on the lakeside and water activities place from J-Hoppers Lake Biwa Guesthouse.
We also have Biwagochi Kitchen in our guesthouse!
We provide international food that cook with local ingredients.
We prepare dinner, breakfast and lunch box for hikers if you book in advance.
You should not miss the unrealized sightseeing spots as well in Shiga such as;
- Omihachiman (A castle town on the eastern shore of Lake Biwa with a nostalgic atmosphere. Popular for a traditional boat ride)
- Hikone Castle (Hailed as being one of the best preserved castles in Japan.)
- Hieizan Enryaku-ji Temple (A remarkable mountaintop complex, World Heritage Site)
- Biwaichi Cycling allows you to cycle around the circumference of Lake Biwa)
- Koga Ninja Village allows you to experience ninja training
- Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park

The staff, especially Eric, are terrific. The place is big and spacious. The futon type beds were new to me. The pillows should be replaced. They're like hard beanbags. Not much room for personal belongings like a 48L backpack inside the bed space but manageable. Rent a bike and go for a ride. The area is calm and enjoyable even in early Spring.

It’s a beautiful place with a very nice vibe. It is 3 mins walk from the Biwa beach. The place is tastefully done with all the amenities. The reception staff speaks English. I loved my stay there. In fact I extended it by one more day.
